Urban and the environment

We have one planet and owe it to the next generation to leave it in a better condition that we found it. By all measures we are not set to do that. At Urban we are continuously looking for ways we can reduce our environmental impact as a business.

Re-Usable cups

We have introduced the Urban R-Cup and incentivise our customers to buy and use our re-usable cup rather than single use takeaways. Even though our single use cups are biodegradable the re-use cups is still a much more environmental option.

PaperStraw

Paper Straws

Plastic is bad, paper is better so we only use biodegradable straws.

Coffee Waste

The environmental impact that the coffee industry has led to the annual creation of more than 500,000 tonnes of waste coffee grounds in the UK alone.

Landfill sites, which is where most waste coffee grounds end up, account for 22% of the UK’s methane emissions, as a result of the decomposition of organic material. Methane is a greenhouse gas 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Urban provides some of its coffee waste to local gardeners for their gardens. We are also looking into Biomass options.
