On the cusp of celebrating his 100th birthday, Allan Karlsson, alert and wily despite his age, shuns the party, steps out of his window and disappears through the night. Getting his hands on a suitcase full of morally questionable money he begins an adventure of running from both the police and underworld crime workers all the while having his own past being told in parallels.
The one hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared by Jonas Jonasson was dubbed the best selling book for advanced children in Sweden a year after its debut, it wasn’t long before it sold three million copies world wide. Moreover, it is what we are reading for our November Book Club. Awarded with critical acclaim and some of the best reviews in the literary world it is now in the process of being adapted for film with Walt Disney Studios negotiating for distribution rights.
Whilst we never encourage people to jump out of windows, we definitely recommend you read the book before the movie!
Join us on Thursday 28th November at Church St from 6pm for drink & cake offers as well as the customary lively conversation! You can join the conversation online at the Urban Coffee Co. Book club Facebook page.
