September’s Book Club

Our book club meets on the last Thursday of every month at Church Street from 6pm onwards and all are welcome, whether you have read the whole book, the first page or nothing at all!

This month we are inviting you to read ‘The Optimism Bias’ by Tali Sharot which should provoke an intriguing discussion for all of our self-deprecating West Midland natives!

Sharot is one of the most innovative neuroscientists at work today and in the book she investigates the neural basis of our apparent bias towards optimism. In this fascinating exploration, she takes an in-depth look at how the brain generates hope and what happens when it fails; how the brains of optimists and pessimists differ; why we are terrible at predicting what will make us happy; how anticipation and dread affect us; and how our optimistic illusions affect our financial, professional, and emotional decisions.

We look forward to seeing you on the 27th with some fresh coffee and homemade cake!
