December’s Coffee Connoisseurs

Well Christmas has finally crept up on us and I would like to welcome you to the last Coffee Connoisseurs blog of the year. It’s been an interesting year in the life of Urban Coffee’s Coffee this year, but I will talk more about that another time and let you in on a few things that will be popping up next year…

This month we have a great pairing of coffees; we have a Kenyan and a Costa Rican for you lovely people to decide on.

Now Kenyan coffee is grown in the high altitudes of Kenya’s highlands and along the Mount Kenya region. The rich volcanic soil, temperate climate and seasonal rains combine to produce coffee that is so well balanced it is most sublime. The ripe berries are handpicked twice a year; the main picking season runs from October to the end of the year, while the second and smaller harvesting season runs from June to July or early August. Due to its unique taste, Kenyan coffee has also been blended with poorer quality coffees from different countries over the years, in order to improve the other coffee’s quality and flavor but thats not how we roll here! You’ll get pure Kenyan alllllll to yourself!

Our Costa Rican is from the Tres Rio region, near the pacific coast which produces coffees that are mild, sweet, and bright.  The Tarrazu region, which is located in the interior mountains of Costa Rica, produces a relatively heavy coffee with more aromatic complexity (Knox, 53).  The La Minita estate is the most sought after coffee in all of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is the only country in the world which has issued an executive order (N°19302-MAG, 4 December 1989) banning the production of any variety of coffee other than Arabica. This standard is made possible by the expertise, experience and favorable physical conditions which converge in this remarkable land. It is a complex and robust coffee that really demands care taken to extract the best out of it.

There is still time for you to sign up and take advantage of our coffee subscription packages and as you all probably already know they would make great gifts for that coffee lover you know for Christmas!

Make sure you’re drinking good coffee well into the new year, Merry Christmas!
