To go with our single estate coffee we want to deliver the best hot chocolate ever. Some of you may remember a channel 4 TV series called “Willie’s Wonky Chocolate Factory” where Willie Harcourt-Cooze imported chocolate from Venezuela and setup a chocolate factory in Devon. Well Willie is now succesfully selling his 100% cacao to Harrords, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols.
So Willie’s chocolate is VENEZUELAN BLACK. The finest, rarest, most expensive cacao in the world. Willie Harcourt-Cooze is the only small cacao grower and producer in the UK. He has been farming cacao for more than a decade at the Hacienda El Tesoro, his beautiful farm in the breathtaking mountains of the Henri Pittier National Park.
Just ten degrees north of the equator Willie’s thousand acres rise into cloud forest. Eleven years ago he planted 10,000 cacao trees in plantations surrounded by bio-diversity so varied that it lays claim to 3% of the world’s flora and 7% of the world’s bird species, as well as the legendary Chuao cacao, the basis of the world’s richest chocolate.
I purchased some from Selfridges to see what kind of hot chocolate it makes. Well it tasted pretty good to me but I need to have a few more sessions to get it exactly right.
